Out of all the things in Sarah Palin's past, perhaps one of the strangest is just coming to light. No, it's not that her true ambition in life was to become a sports journalist, or that as mayor of Wasilla, AK she required rape victims to pay for their own rape kits. The strangest thing so far? Sarah Palin credits her success of becoming Governor in part to a man who hunts down witches and witchcraft. No, really.
In 2005, only three years ago, Palin was speaking at her church in Wasilla where she was talking about Pastor Thomas Muthee in high regards.
“And I'm thinking, this guy’s really bold, he doesn't even know what I'm going to do, he doesn’t know what my plans are," she continued. "And he’s praying not 'oh Lord if it be your will may she become governor,' no, he just prayed for it. He said, 'Lord make a way and let her do this next step. And that’s exactly what happened.'"
“So, again, very very powerful, coming from this church.”
In 1988, Pastor Muthlee claimed that he had been "called by God" to travel to Kenya and free the people there of spiritual oppression. Speaking of the experience, Pastor Muthee remarked "We prayed, we fasted, the Lord showed us a spirit of witchcraft resting over the place." Muthee made his experiences into a documentary titled "Transformations". In it, he describes his "spiritual warfare" against the occult and witchcraft.
This spiritual warfare included actions against a woman called "Mama Jane" who ran a large divination clinic in the town. Muthee labeled her a "witch" and in turn, had the town demanded she be stoned to death. "Mama Jane" was forced to abandon her home town.
An article from the Christian Science Monitor in 1999 talked about his experiences in Kenya, as well his video "Transformations".
And from Tuesday's London Times:
Public outrage eventually led the police to raid her home, where they fired gunshots, killing a pet python which they believed to be a demon.
After Mama Jane was questioned by police – and released – she decided it was time to leave town, the account says.
Pastor Muthee has frequently referred to this witchhunt in his sermons as an example of the power of “spiritual warfare”. In October 2005, he delivered ten sermons at the Wasilla Assembly of God, the audio of which was available on the church’s website until it was removed around the time Mrs. Palin’s candidacy was announced. The blog Irregular Times has listings and screen grabs of the sermons.
It was during that these sermons that Mrs Palin, who was then preparing for her gubernatorial run, was anointed by Pastor Muthee. His intercession, she says, was 'awesome'."
So what we can gain from this information is that Sarah Palin believes in witchcraft, much like earlier American settlers in the 1600's. Does anyone remember what happened in Salem, Ma? Innocent people killed because they were accused of being witches and possessing "evil" powers. This is the same thing, only on a much grander scale, because these days, we know better, or at least we should. Pastor Muthee visited the Wasilla assembly at least 10 times, and he was a welcomed and respected part of their church community. Sarah Palin, you've got some explaining to do.
