Below are some excerpts from Gov. Palin's speech at the RNC. I've added in bold font some things Palin supposedly edited out before the final draft.
Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience (mainly because being Mayor of a town of 7000 requires little, if no, effort), let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities (like growing the town's Meth labs from a measly 9 labs in 2003 to 42 labs in 2004. It's a difficult task getting your town named the Meth capital of Alaska by the Alaskan State Police, but under my command, we did it! It's also important to mention my carwash. Yes, I never disclosed my ownership of the company to the state, but good for not disclosing, because the business was disolved by the state anyhow for non-payment of all the fees I owed.)
I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone (and not because you're actually unqualified to run the country should McCain be unable to serve out his term, and let's face it, he's 72 and has had cancer removed three times, so you're pretty much voting for me to be President.) But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion – I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country. (More Meth labs are only part of my comprehensive plan. I also plan on speaking out against teen pregnancy, then supporting my teen daughter getting pregnant while at the same time cutting funding to support teen mothers and help them find homes )
Palin also added:
I came to office promising major ethics reform, to end the culture of self-dealing. And today, that ethics reform is the law. (In fact, thanks to me, ethics is a major topic of conversation in Alaska. I'm currently under investigation for firing Walter Monegan because he would not fire my ex-brother-in-law because I asked him to! It's an impeachable offense, but here I am, on the ticket with McCain. It's quite fitting actually!)
Palin's speech continued on. But it was hateful and hypocritical. I think everyone stopped watching by the end.
